Norwood II House
Norwood House II is an extension and internal reconfiguration of a detached house in South East London, designed to bring coherence and generosity to a family home.
A new single-storey addition to the rear forms the primary intervention — a carefully proportioned volume that accommodates a kitchen, dining and sitting space in one open, flowing arrangement. The form is composed as a quiet counterpart to the existing house, stepping subtly to define a timber-lined terrace and to mediate between domestic scale and garden setting.
The external treatment draws from the existing palette but interprets it through a contemporary lens. Dark brickwork and vertical timber are composed with restraint, while crisp detailing at the parapet and openings lend the extension a quiet formality. Glazing is expressed as deep-framed timber apertures — both sliding and fixed — establishing a tactile threshold between interior and exterior.
Internally, the plan is rationalised to create a sequence of clear, connected spaces. The palette is warm but minimal: pale surfaces, natural finishes and considered joinery. Light is introduced through new rooflights and generous openings to the garden, establishing calm, daylight-filled interiors that support the rhythms of everyday life.
